As August settles over the country, this is the time when late summer florals step into the spotlight.
From the rich hues of dahlias to the elegance of delphiniums, these late summer flowers bring warmth, depth, and movement as we move from one season to another.
These flowers have evolved to bring vital colour and structure to our shops, homes and gardens and are especially fabulous for weddings and events, corporate work and everyday floral gifting.
I find that when I have a large wedding in the UK, in the later summer months, these blooms offer long-lasting appeal and give wonderful texture to arrangements and installations.
There are also some great British flower farms that supply these stems, although your usual flower supplier will be able to source these stems for you. Some of my favourite late summer flowers are:
Asters
These gorgeous traditional flowers have a classic cottage garden look for those customers, brides and clients who want a simple, just picked look. Asters range in colour from white and pale yellow to pink, rose, red, blue, purple, and violet. There are many aster varieties, but the China aster is one of my favourites in late summer.
