October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the UK, and florists can play a big role by creating beautiful pink-themed florals while raising funds for charities like Breast Cancer Now or Cancer Research UK.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer amongst women in the UK , with around 56,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women diagnosed every year and around 400 new cases in men each year. Highlighting this serious disease can only be for the good of everyone, including you and your business.
Reasons to consider promoting pink flowers in October:
· October is internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness month.
· Get your business involved in a meaningful cause.
· Connect emotionally with your customers.
· And …..pink is the most popular flower colour in the UK.
Some pink themed floral ideas to promote:
Pink Ribbon Bouquets - create a bouquet, at 3 price points, in shades of blush, rose, hot pink & white, and add a pink ribbon.
Offer a single or triple pink roses, symbolising hope, love, and strength. Wrap in simple paper and tie with a pink ribbon.
Pink posies in jars and/or pink mugs with a ribbon symbol are affordable mini designs so everyone can support the cause.
Create a luxury pink arrangement of perhaps orchids, hydrangeas and roses for statement gifting.
Flower crowns are always loved, offer a pink-themed floral crown for events, walks, or charity fundraisers.
Fundraising ideas often come from the simplest of ideas
Suggest a donation with every bouquet: e.g., £2 from every pink bouquet sold goes to Breast Cancer Now.
Have an in-store charity box and invite customers to round up their payment for donation.
Offer a “Pink Posy Workshop” with ticket proceeds supporting a breast cancer charity.
Team up with local women’s groups, gyms, cafés, or salons running pink campaigns.
Decorate your shop window with a pink awareness theme, eye-catching for passers-by and social media.
Use Instagram & Facebook: share daily pink-themed bouquets & fundraising updates.
Local PR: contact your local newspaper or radio to feature your campaign.
Community Boards: advertise workshops or charity sales in cafés, gyms, and libraries.
Email Newsletter: share stories about why you’re supporting the cause, with bouquet links.
Get in touch with Breast Cancer Now online and sign up for a fundraising pack. Let them know what you are thinking of doing.
For social media , take a photograph of a beautiful pink bouquet with a breast cancer ribbon tied around or attached and post something like:
This October, we’re turning pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For every Pink Hope Bouquet sold, we’ll donate £2 to @breastcancernow to help fund life-changing research and support. Together, we bloom stronger.
Using hash tags like
Another idea is to ask a customer if they would pose for a photograph, smiling holding a pink bouquet or an arrangement and post something like:
Every bouquet makes a difference. Thank you to all our amazing customers supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Buy pink, give hope, and join us in raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
If you like the idea of a workshop, always take lots of photos (with the permission of the attendees, of course) of them arranging flowers in jars and post something like:
Join us for a special Pink Posy Workshop. Learn to create your own arrangement while helping raise money for breast cancer research. A fun, creative afternoon/evening for a meaningful cause. Limited spots — book now!
Encourage customers to post their pink bouquets with a hashtag and tag your shop. You can then repost their photos to build momentum.
Show fundraising progress eg “£200 raised so far thanks to our customers!”.
Decorate your shop with ribbons and pink-themed arrangements.
Dress your windows to highlight breast cancer awareness and your fundraising initiative and get your team involved by wearing pink ribbons or wear pink t-shirts.
Combining fundraising and awareness adds up and makes your shop a recognised supporter in your community. Customers love businesses that support causes with heart.
