Florists and floral designers will almost certainly carry secateurs and scissors in their car or van ‘just in case’ they see fabulous foliage and branches along the roadside. I always have a pair in my vehicle, but I have learnt that there are a few rules to be aware of before you snip, snip, snip away.

Many years ago, I had a scenario where I had seen some beautiful, hardy, trailing ivy by the road side when I was collecting my son from school. I had a couple of large weddings coming up, and it looked absolutely perfect for what I needed.
I quickly pulled in, along this quiet country lane. The ivy was growing over a tall wall and down onto the pavement and as such, (at the time) I didn’t think that it ‘belonged’ to anyone. What I hadn’t realised is that there was a large private home down a long drive way on the other side of the wall. After a few moments of snipping, I was pulled to a stop with my snipping by a lady that had just driven past and seen me stretching up the wall cutting some trails of foliage. She pulled her car up and asked me what I was doing as she was the owner of the house beyond the wall.
