These days, a tidy shop and a good flowers selection are not enough to guarantee success; you also need to embrace new ways to engage customers, to anticipate what they want and to encourage them to spend more.
Every conversation you have with a customer is a potential sales opportunity, so try thinking like them. Most people are quite relaxed about spending £4 every day on a take-away coffee or £100 or more on a pair of trainers, so let them decide how much they're comfortable spending with you. Don't assume that you need to stick to rigid price points or always offer the cheapest option first. Consumers spend more on everything every day, yet florists are reluctant to charge more or offer products at higher prices. Don’t be afraid to offer a customer an item at more than they initially say they want to spend; the worst they can do is say "no thanks".

A great sales tactic here is to offer advice rather than bombard the customer with questions such as, "How much do you want to spend? What do you want to send? What’s her favourite flower?" etc. Instead, position yourself as the expert advisor, guiding customers toward the appropriate choice for their needs.
