Coleg Cambria was founded in 2013, and since then they have rapidly established themselves as a leading UK education provider. Based in North Wales, Coleg Cambria is one of the largest colleges in the UK, with approximately 6,000 full-time students, 20,000 part-time learners and many international links.


Coleg Cambria offer a vast array of full-time and part-time courses. The college also works in partnership with over 1000 employers locally and nationally to help you gain apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities.

Courses


Level 1 Floristry

This course provides an introduction to Floristry and has a practical focus which is supported with theory based classroom sessions, all designed to stretch and encourage the development of skills, knowledge, understanding and experience in order to work towards gaining Floristry related employment. The Level 1 course is aimed at learners with little or no experience in Floristry. For those with some experience there will be opportunities to develop and expand both your practical and theoretical knowledge further.


Duration

1 year full time


Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at grade E / 2 or above one of which must be in English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths.

  • For all learners who are looking to progress onto this L1 course from Foundation Skills – you must have achieved your E3 qualification, progressed in maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.

Career Options

Progression to Level 2 Floristry subject to meeting criteria.

Learners wishing to go into employment may find work as a Floristry Assistant.



Level 2 Floristry

This course is ideal for creative students who are interested in developing a career in Floristry. The course covers a range of Floristry skills that are essential to the Floristry industry covering designs such as tied, funeral and wedding. You will also gain an insight into botanical names of flowers and plants, the range of jobs available in the industry and what organisations there are that support florists today. As part of the course students participate in interesting educational visits and work experience.


Duration

1 year full time


Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths/Numeracy or Science.

Or

  • Level 1 Diploma in Floristry (subject to meeting criteria).

Career Options

Progression to Level 3 FE course or Level 3 Work Based Apprenticeship in Floristry.

The course aims to assist learners in obtaining employment as a retail florist within a Floristry business. Successful students should consider enhancing their employment prospects by developing advanced design and supervisory skills.



Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Floristry

This course provides an in-depth insight into the Floristry industry, developing your skills, knowledge and experience at an advanced level in order to gain floristry related employment and stretch you towards a more senior role and level of responsibility. You will be involved in creating designs for events and weddings, public demonstrations and for commercial sale.


The subjects you will study are a wide range of Floristry related topics, including:

• Creative design process

• Plant and flower care

• Tied floral designs

• Floral designs in a medium

• Wired and glued floral designs

• Business management and marketing

• Health and safety

• Trends in the floristry industry

• Event floristry.


You will have the incredible opportunity to benefit from taking part in a range of challenging Floristry projects, such as real life weddings from start to finish, planning innovative designs to suit the bride. You will also plan and carry out public demonstrations and have the chance to take part in prestigious competitions such as The UK Skills Competition.

1 year full time


Entry Requirements

Level 2 Floristry or at least two years of industry experience and all entrants will have a skills audit.


Career Options

Progression to Higher Education (university). You will need to gain the required UCAS points specific to the course of your choice


For those learners wishing to go into employment, the Level 3 course will equip you with theoretical and practical skills that are applicable to many roles in the floristry industry, as well as a range of personal, social and wider skills that are relevant to a broader range of career opportunities.


Typical examples of employment routes include senior florist, supervisor, event specialist, or lecturer, or alternatively you will be well equipped to consider self employment, for example as a freelancer or a manager / owner.


Coleg Cambria are a finalist in the Student Team Competition at the Interflora World Cup in Manchester.
