Menopause Guidance - What employers can do to support staff

The menopause is a natural stage of life which affects around half of the population. An increasing number of women are citing the menopause as being a direct factor in unfair dismissal and sex discrimination claims at employment tribunal.

Menopausal symptoms usually occur between 45 and 55 years of age but it can also happen earlier or later in someone's life. The symptoms of menopause can affect staff differently. It’s important that employers have support in place. Acas has new guidance and training to help benefit employers and their staff.

The advice covers:

  • Managing the effects of the menopause

  • Supporting staff through the menopause

  • Talking with staff about the menopause [we have included an Acas factsheet below which you could print and display in your shop]

  • Menopause and the law
