April is one of the most inspiring months in the floristry calendar. This is my favourite season, so full of optimism and newness, gorgeous Spring bulbs, bright colours and flowers that shout sunshine. For florists, April flowers offer a powerful opportunity to inspire customers, celebrate seasonality, and bring the feeling of spring into homes.
For florists, this is more than a seasonal shift; it’s an opportunity to help customers bring that sense of optimism indoors through carefully chosen blooms. After months of bare branches and muted tones, the reappearance of colour feels almost transformative.
April Flowers
April’s flowers are among the most uplifting of the year. Their charm lies not only in their colours but in their symbolism, fresh starts, joy and the simple pleasure of nature returning to life. We all need this is our lives and so do our customers.

Tulips: One of April’s Best-Selling Seasonal Flowers
One of the most popular flowers, chosen by customers are tulips. They are in the top 5 of the bestselling seasonal flowers in the UK and Europe.
Fun fact: Did you know that it can take up to 25 years to breed a new Tulip variety?
Tulips have elegant stems and are available in a wide spectrum of colours, from soft pastels to bold saturated tones, making them endlessly versatile. Whether styled in a loose, natural bunch or a more structured display, tulips embody effortless beauty.
Dutch Tulips are stunning, with so much history. British Tulips are superb too, offering us all affordable, seasonal choices to promote in our shops and allowing our customers to buy ‘local’/ British grown. With the rise of flower farms across the UK, florists have increasing access to high-quality seasonal stems that reflect the true character of British Springtime.
I particularly love a gorgeous parrot tulip, a vase full of parrot tulips is sheer joy.
Their frilly and intricate petal formation and colouring is exquisite. They also continue to grow after being cut, adding a sense of movement and spontaneity to arrangements over time, something customers often find delightful.

Daffodils: A Classic Symbol of British Spring
Daffodils are instantly recognisable and cheerfully bright; they bring a burst of sunshine into any room. Their association with new beginnings makes them especially popular for gifting and seasonal décor. Whether arranged en masse for impact or combined with complementary blooms, daffodils are a true symbol of British Spring.

Ranunculus: Sophisticated Texture for Spring Arrangements
Ranunculus with their delicate, layered petals, offer a more refined texture. Their intricate structure adds depth and elegance to arrangements, making them a favourite for those seeking something a little more sophisticated. Available in soft creams, blush pinks, warm apricots, and deeper jewel tones. They pair beautifully with both bold and understated palettes.

Hyacinths: Colour and Fragrance in April
Hyacinths deserve a mention not only for their vibrant colours but also for their unmistakable fragrance. I find that hyacinths can be either loved for their fragrance or disliked as some cannot cope with the heady scent they emit. A single vase can fill a room with the scent of Spring, making them perfect for hallways or living spaces where first impressions matter. Their dense clusters of blooms create visual fullness, making even a small arrangement feel abundant.
April Flowers - Honourable Mentions
Beyond these favourites, April also welcomes an array of beautiful anemones with their striking dark centres. Muscari for pops of purple-blue. Cherry blossom and forsythia branches that bring height and structure. Together, these elements allow us to create arrangements that feel layered, natural, and full of life.

April Flowers Design Ideas
Encouraging customers to embrace a relaxed, garden-inspired style can make Spring flowers feel even more special. Spring arrangements benefit from a sense of looseness and movement, mirroring how flowers grow in nature. Mixing heights, textures, and colours is key.
Tall tulips can weave through lower, fuller blooms like ranunculus, while delicate filler flowers soften the overall look. This approach creates arrangements that feel dynamic and organic, rather than overly styled.
I find that simple containers work best. Clear glass jars, ceramic and enamel jugs or even repurposed containers allow the flowers themselves to take centre stage. This aligns beautifully with current interior trends that favour authenticity and understated elegance.
Florists can inspire creativity by suggesting smaller arrangements throughout the home. A cluster of daffodils in the kitchen, a few tulips by the bedside, or a fragrant hyacinth in the hallway can collectively transform a space. These small touches make Spring feel present in everyday moments, not just special occasions.
For those looking to create a focal point, a larger arrangement for a dining table or mantelpiece can anchor a room. Incorporating foliage such as eucalyptus and ruscus adds contrast and enhances the sense of freshness.
April Colours
As I have often spoken about before, colour is so important. It is the visual perception we see as human beings when we look at anything. I adore colour and April’s colour palette is one of the season's greatest joys.
Florists can guide customers in choosing palettes that complement their interiors, helping them see flowers as part of a cohesive home aesthetic.
April Colours for Bedroom and Living Area
Soft pastels, pale pinks, buttery yellows, lilacs and sky blues evoke calm and light feelings. These are perfect for creating serene, welcoming interiors. These tones work beautifully in bedrooms and living areas where a sense of relaxation is key.
April Colours for Kitchens and Social Areas
For customers looking for flowers that are more vibrant, bold combinations of coral, fuchsia, and sunny yellow can energise a space. These brighter palettes are ideal for kitchens or social areas, where they can uplift and invigorate.

Tips for Selling April Flowers
Offer Care Guidance
Helping customers extend the life of their flowers is a way to add value. Simple guidance can significantly improve longevity. offer tips such as;
Trim the stems at an angle
Add flower food
Change the water regularly
Keep flowers away from direct heat
Spring flowers, in particular, can be sensitive to temperature changes. Advising customers to keep them in cool areas overnight can help preserve their freshness. Providing flower food and care cards also reinforces a florist’s expertise and attention to detail.
Educating customers in this way not only enhances their experience but also builds trust and encourages repeat visits.
This is so important, building trust and building your brand is key and allows you to stand out from your competitors.

Emotional Connection
Spring flowers are not just decorative, they are deeply emotional. They mark occasions, lift spirits and reconnect us with nature after the Winter months. Spring flowers transform spaces, uplift moods, and celebrate the beauty of the season.
A simple bunch of Tulips can brighten a difficult day, while a carefully chosen arrangement can celebrate milestones or express sentiments that words cannot.
April offers an opportunity to connect with customers on an emotional level. It’s a time that we can tell stories through flowers, highlight their origins, their meanings and the care that goes into every bouquet and arrangement.
Florists can extend this connection beyond the counter by inspiring customers through workshops, in-store displays, and social media. Demonstrating how to style spring flowers at home or showcasing seasonal favourites encourages creativity and helps customers imagine flowers as part of everyday life. When customers feel inspired and understood, they are more likely to buy and to return.
Demonstrate Sustainable practices
It is also worth mentioning that customers are becoming more mindful of sustainability, and as florists, we can promote seasonal flowers, reduce unnecessary packaging, and offer reusable or recyclable wrapping options.
Spring is not just something to observe outdoors, it’s something to experience within our homes, every day. With thoughtful selection, creative styling, and a commitment to seasonality, florists can help customers embrace the very best of April.
