The Promise of a New Year

I have to be honest and say I’m not a fan of Christmas! I think like a lot of florists I fall onto the sofa on Christmas Eve totally exhausted, with cracked, green fingers, sore feet and a sore back. I haven’t had a hot cup of coffee in more than a week and somehow it doesn’t taste quite right without a liberal sprinkling of pine needles or glitter.
New Year however is a whole different story and makes me quite giddy, with that September new term feeling, a clean page full of promise and endless possibilities.

I like to start a new year with a stock take, even if that means closing for an extra day. I think it’s really important to do a bit of a floral life laundry. Take note of all your stock so you don’t over buy (or go short), look for deals of your most popular items when restocking. Pack Christmas stock away, writing a note on the outside of the boxes of what you have, making a list of what you need to replenish and maybe can get cheaper in the sales.
